Luann K. Houser was born and raised
surrounded by the farm country
of Mid-Ohio. She has loved both
animals and art since childhood.
Luann holds a Bachelor of Fine
Arts degree from the highly acclaimed
Columbus College of Art and Design
and has worked as an illustrator
and designer in the advertising
industry for the past twenty five
years.
A
passion for horses has made
equine portraiture a natural
specialty. Luann has gained
a fine reputation for doing
quality portraits that capture
personality and accurate conformation.
Commissions come from all over
the U.S., and she has sent portraits
as far away as Australia.
Recent awards
include the cover design for
the 2002 All American Quarter
Horse Congress Program, Children's
Choice award at the Bosque County
Conservatory of Fine Art, Award
of Merit at the 1998 WAOW Show,
Biloxi MS, and Publisher's Award
from Art of the West magazine
at the 1997 WAOW show, Biloxi,
MS. Her paintings have been
juried into the American Academy
of Equine Artist's Show, the
Harness Tracks of America Show,
and Ohio's Duck Stamp competition.
Her work has been featured in
Equine Images and the Western
Horseman magazines.
In the past
ten years, an interest in the
historical West has provided
inspiration for new subjects
in Luann's oil paintings. Dedicated
research and annual trips to
the Western States are used
to gather reference materials
for future paintings. Native
Americans, mountain men, cowboys,
longhorns, and pioneers, all
from the late 1800's are featured
in Luann's most recent art.
